Illegal immigration has become a major problem in Australia. Although physical remoteness keeps many away there are still plenty who find a way in. Most illegals enter the country by plane or boat. They claim refugee status or they overstay valid visas. Those who take boats pay $10,000 to $40,000 for the services of a professional. Illigals that overstay their visas are, surprisingly, mostly from the UK, the US, and China.

The fact is that these people are taking away jobs from citizens. They are swelling the market with cheap expendable labor and threaten the well being of the Australian economy. The employers of illigals don’t have to follow any laws concerning the treatment of their employees so illigals are more likely to be mistreated.

The number of illegals entering the country is rising and Australia’s government is failing to stop most of the illegal immigration. Tighter visa control is required if Australia wants to get a handle on this problem. The threat is only increasing and something must be done soon if they want to control this growing problem.

Illegal Immigration
Yes, illegal immigration has become a large problem, not just in Australia, but all around the world. Another such example is illegal immigration from Mexico to the United States, and though boarders have been put up it is still a major issue.

It's surprising that the majority of illegal immigrants are from the UK, the US, and China. Where there isn’t much of a job crisis. I would personally think that more would come from such countries as New Caledonia and the Solomon Islands, where there is less money and chances for work. Another thing though is that if illegal immigrant are willing to pay so much money to get into Australia then they can’t be that bad off, or they are extremely desperate to get away from where ever they are, and if they are in that much need of help I think that it would be wrong to deny them that chance. Also they’re probably taking jobs that no one else would take, that are labor intensive and pay little. So they are probably helping the economy more then hurting it.

As for adding more boarder control to slow the amount of immigration, it may help a little bit, but illegals will always manage to get through, and if the government wastes its money trying to stop immigration that will just hurt the economy more then the immigration would.

i'm sure every country can make the same claim about illegal immigrants coming in and impacting the economy. the way i see it, though, it's not a simple matter. i know plenty of people are streaming out of poor countries, seeking opportunities in better off countries. but it is also true that plenty of people are streaming into the poorer countries, also looking for opportunities. america, australia, canada and the uk have their fair share of imigrants, but these same states also have thousands (if not hundreds upon thousands) of their own working in other countries, seeking oportunities in other lands. plenty of african, asian and south american countries have poor immigrants streaming in from neighboring countries.

the real problem is a global economic crisis that is affecting every single nation on the face of the planet. we all like to believe that the grass is greener on the other side, so people move from place to place, seeking those elusive economic opportunities.
the only way to stem illegal immigration is to address the problems that are ailing our economies. tighter visa controls won't make much of a difference. responsible goernance and management of economies will.
